Planning Kitchen Remodeling

Planning kitchen remodeling

If you are planning to remodel your kitchen then various aspects need to be considered before you begin. Given below is a series of steps and guides you can keep in mind to make kitchen remodeling a fun-filled, constructive event.

A basic plan

A well thought-out detailed plan is a must before you begin remodeling your kitchen. This plan should be designed keeping in view the current good and bad aspects in your kitchen. Next you need to decide whether you plan to design the kitchen yourself, use a kitchen or interior designer or work with a cabinet distributor or home center. Also modern usage trends and optimum usage of space should be kept in mind.

Flooring

Sheet vinyl has been a popular choice for kitchen floors because it is available in a variety of designs, textures, price ranges and colors. This has today replaced linoleum, which was a favorite during earlier days. Ceramic tiles, wooden floors and eco-friendly materials are other good options for good looking and durable flooring.

Optimum workspace

Modern trends show that nowadays couples or nuclear families often cook together and share kitchen chores. Thus workspace in today's kitchens should be utilized such that more than one person can work efficiently without getting in the other person's way. You can also create distinct work centers by separating workspaces with sinks, microwave or other appliances.

Storage space

Modern trends also indicate that nowadays with women working out, very few items are cooked from scratch and storage space for items needs to be increased. Thus cabinets have entered the scene in a big way. One can choose from frameless and framed cabinets and can order from custom or standard design makers. Check for rollout, tilt-out and other storage features inside the cabinets.

Kitchen sinks

Sinks are an important element in any kitchen. These are available today in a variety of colors, materials, sizes and design options to suit every pocket. You can choose from cast iron, stainless steel, plastic, and top-mount or under mount models. You can also select from single-bowl, double-bowl, deep and shallow models.

Considering appliances

While purchasing appliances for your kitchen remember that these should suit the entire concept of the kitchen design. Opt from built-in or free standing styles and select ranges in materials that go with the color combinations and materials used in your kitchen.

We at totalremodeling.com have a wide range of options to suit your every design requirement. From helping you choose the right materials, colors and designs, our experts are here just to make your kitchen remodeling exercise a wonderful experience.

Mass Shootings: The Elephant in the Kitchen Strikes Again

The recent mass shootings in Dayton and El Paso are yet another sign of our imploding society in America. Regardless of what the Left likes to trumpet, it's not about the guns. It's also not about 'white supremacy' either. Both are merely symptoms of a nation entering into its final years of life. That is the elephant in the kitchen.

America long ago began taking God out of society. That would be the God who in fact, provides the sovereignty under which we inhabit His earth. It's worth noting that if man offered our sovereign, man could take it away, which is what is happening in our country right now.

We've removed God from public places, banned Him from our schools and allow elected officials to pledge their loyalty to our nation on books other than His Bible. Then we wonder why we don't enjoy the blessings on America we once did. After the war to remove God from sight, we then began killing his newborn children by the thousands and thousands in the name of 'rights' and publicly vilify anyone who disagrees.

We awaken each day in a society where morals no longer exist, where marriage, once the laboratory of decency, is being stamped 'outdated' and tossed in the trash heap of history. Our children are charges of the state from cradle to college graduation when they owe student loans they can never pay. We go to bed, sleepless, wondering why people shoot other people? We should be astonished not by the shooters but by the people who are surprised that shootings happen.

Courts are ordering parents to chemically castrate eight-year-olds who think they are the wrong sex; schools are disciplining students for not using the proper 'pronouns' when addressing other students and males who can't compete with other males in sports can claim they are women and go home with the gold.

As a society, we can't keep planting thorns and expect roses to bloom. We allow immigration, both legal and illegal, to dilute the values ‚Äč‚Äčthat made our nation strong. We are inundating our country with people, many through no fault of their own, have no idea now to live or contribute to a peaceful and productive society. In the Left's quest for so-called 'equality' they are turning our culture and our nation into the very countries our new immigrants have fled.

We have a culture where we are not to discriminate against anyone or anything, except white people and white males in particular. Women are martyrs; men are guilty, never mind until proven so, and blacks are 'owed' reparations and Spanish deserve their lands back. Women demonize masculinity while many others are offended by a fart in the wind. And we wonder why people are going bonkers and shooting people.

A wise man once said 'you reap what you sow' and our reaping is growing uglier by the day. Young men who spend hours upon hours playing violent video games, never talking to a real person, …

The Principles of Design for Kitchens and Bathrooms

Good design is defined as unity of design and a timeless look. But to achieve unity and an evergreen look one must give consideration to all the principles of design. Remodeling your kitchen and bathroom is so much more than selecting fixtures and painting the walls. A good remodel will have a well thought out design concept that begins with the principles of design as its foundation.

The principles are balance, rhythm, emphasis / focal point, scale, proportion, and harmony / unity. In order to have a better understanding of these concepts we will look at each at it pertains to bathroom remodel planning and kitchen planning.

Let's start with balance which is the distribution of the visual weight of objects, colors, textures and space. On a recent powder room design a client requested tile to be installed above the vanity all the way up the wall and considered tiling the whole wall not just above the vanity. The powder room being very small could only visually support a small amount of tile without making the space feel bulky or heavy. Based on the principle of balance we opted for less is more and decided not to do the whole wall. Thought was also given to the light pendants we chose, again wanting to keep the room balanced we chose streamline lights that had very little bulk and clear glass to keep the balance of the space feeling light. These decisions helped the design of this small room feel spacious even with the lack of square footage.

Moving onto rhythm. The easiest way to create rhythm within a space is to repeat elements of design which can include line, shape, texture, color, pattern and light. In a recent bathroom project we used floral like mosaic in the shower, on the floor and on an accent wall. We repeated the pattern in several areas over mute color tile to give the bathroom rhythm. In a recent kitchen we used straight lines on the cabinet doors, hardware, light fixtures and furniture to create rhythm and flow. The idea is to keep the eye moving in a natural way that makes one feel relaxed and comfortable in the space and never overwhelmed.

Emphasis / focal point is one of my favorite principles of design to work with. Here the idea is to showcase a portion of the design and hold the viewer's attention. Often referred to as the "wow" factor one can be as creative as they want as long as thought is given to the rest of the design principles. One of my favorite design projects was a master bathroom that was designed in all marble. The entire bathroom was jaw dropping so creating a focal point meant we had to get creative. The solution was building a false wall to house a fireplace and wall to wall niche tiled in herringbone which was accented with sun from a skylight. Though the entire space was breathtaking everyone who entered held their attention …

Kitchen Curtains Designs

Add a little style to your windows by decorating them with lively kitchen curtains that complement your kitchen furniture and make them look fabulous. While eating dinner or breakfast around a well-decorated kitchen, you feel the impact right away.

There are many ways in which you can decorate your otherwise ordinary, dull kitchen curtains. You can add a little zing to your curtains just by changing small details.

  1. Banded Curtains

Sew a strip of contrasting color to the edges of the kitchen curtain to add a little color and contrast to the room.

  1. Table Cloth Curtains

Turn your tablecloth into draperies for an easy DIY project that is not only cheap but also easy to make.

  1. Custom Curtains

Add a frill or lace to the bottom of the plain kitchen curtain to give it a nice touch. For a more formal look, try a tassel trim, for a funkier look, add a ball fringe.

  1. Ombre Curtains

Ombre can never go out of style. Try an ombre curtain design for your kitchen drapes to have a chic and lively effect.

  1. Embroidered Curtains

Embroidered kitchen curtains give the entire space a more homely feeling. You can choose any design you want, and your curtains are bound to look elegant.

  1. Block Print Curtains

Block prints are a fun design for a curtain. They not only look good but also create an airy feel to the room.

A bold colored curtain is like a statement necklace. It becomes the focus point of the room. Go bold with your kitchen drapes to attract more people towards it.

  1. Stripes

Stripes never grow old. Long horizontal or vertical stripes always look great on curtains.

If your kitchen is decorated with light colored furniture and counters, choose dark curtains to highlight the surroundings. Darker curtains will not only shut out the light but will also go great with the rest of the room.

  1. Denim Curtains

Denim blue curtains are an excellent way to accentuate the kitchen, especially if contrasted with white walls.

  1. Doily Netting Instead Of Curtains

Use doily-like material as curtains to bring a little change to the room. These will not help keep the sun rays out, but they are sure to look great.

Kitchen curtains can be of all shapes and sizes with many designs and patterns. It is only up to you to decide what kind of curtain suits your needs best. You can choose to make your own curtains, or you can buy them at the market or order them online, but one thing is for certain, you can always get the curtains of your dreams if you are just a little more creative.

Hiring a Contractor For Your Bathroom Remodel

The process of hiring a professional contractor to tackle your bathroom renovations can make your head spin pretty quick.

First, there are many bath renovation companies out there. Look under 'General Contractors' or 'Bathroom Remodeling' in the phone book and you will see what we mean … there are hundreds of bathroom remodelers and general contractors in each area. On top of that, there are hundreds of other great contractors that remodel bathrooms but are not in the phone book.

Second, it is pretty easy to go around calling yourself a professional bathroom remodeling pro. People don't necessarily need an office or a lot of fancy equipment or tools to start a business. Therefore, individuals that have done some repairs on a few houses or rooms can try to trick you into believing they are a highly skilled and experienced bathroom remodeling professional. If they have a truck, a tool belt, and a business card they could fool a lot of people!

Finally, there are many different types of contractors that remodel bathrooms. There are handymen, general contractors, builders, construction companies, and companies that specialize in only bathroom renovations.

So what do you do when looking for a contractor to remodel your bathroom?

We recommend:

o Asking your friends and neighbors to see if they have had good or bad experiences with local contractors. Simply knowing that another person has had a good experience with a contractor prior to calling them lessens your chance of hiring a problem.

o Call 3 or 4 companies to bid on your remodeling project. This will help you determine fair market price for your job. This does not mean you should always go with the lowest price. You should go with the company you feel most comfortable with and who you feel will do the best job. If an individual is offering a real low price you should ask yourself, "why?".

o Decide exactly what you want to do to remodel your bathroom. At a minimum you should have a few general ideas before calling a contractor. They can help you make some final decisions, but you need to be able to explain your basic needs before letting them talk you into things.

o Try to decide if your work can be accomplished by a handyman, or if it is more involved. If you are simply laying some tile, painting, and changing some fixtures you should feel confident that a quality handyman could handle this work. If you are talking about tearing things up and changing the entire bathroom around, then your best chance of success is by hiring an experienced general contractor.

o Make sure the company has insurance. There is a chance for injury and for destruction of your house when remodeling a bathroom. As mentioned above there are many fly-by-night contractors that may not be insured. Ask them for their insurance company's phone number and call them to prove they are insured. If you skip this part you could be held …

3 Tips for Choosing the Best Toy Kitchen

I have a pastry chef and an expert in protocol at home. So I want to make clear something: The Kitchen is for Children and Girls.

You can spend hours playing together with the kitchen. And every year I like to order something new on the menu. This year there will be no kitchen since the new one does not have much time and is perfect. It is the wood of Ikea and it has been great.

I think this year we're going to tune it a bit and we'll paint it, we'll make some curtains, some extra hooks and we'll see what happens to us … I think I'm going to put some LED strips with this when the time change. They play and do not see what they cook. When we do, I'll show it on Instagram.

And now, I tell you three aspects that I think you have to take into account when choosing a good toy kitchen from my experience and not throwing money.

1. Perfect Size

My children wanted a small kitchen that they saw in an advertisement and that even had a refrigerator. Yes, beautiful but it is for those who have 100 square meters of the living room and want to put there.

But in my mini room where I have even the study corner mounted, it was not feasible. Be aware of the size of the kitchen and the space available at home. A kitchen is not something that you can assemble and disassemble every time you use it.

2. Material

I'm not very supportive of plastic kitchens, I'm more of wood. There are some very complete plastic and many details. It depends on what you are looking for. Normally wooden ones last longer than plastic ones but they also weigh more if you have to move them from one place to another to play. In my case, it is always in the same place so there is no problem.

3. Accessories

There are ideal kitchens with many accessories such as an oven, faucet, lights, and ceramic hob, coffee … I think it is very important at the time of choosing. It is what makes the game much more fun and realistic. Children love to imitate what elders do.

Nowadays there are accessories for kitchens exactly like the ones we use at home. You do not need to come in your own kitchen since you can always buy them separately.

The Top 5 Most Essential Gear For Your Camp Kitchen

When you go on a camping trip, you would set up your campsite to be a comfortable space for you to sleep, cook and eat – just like your home. Setting up a camp kitchen is easy, just as long as you know which gear are the most important. In the future, you can add more items to your outdoor kitchen but for now, here are the top 5 that you need:

Stove

A portable stove is a must-have for any outdoor kitchen. You can choose to cook all your meals over a campfire but that would call for a longer cooking time and you might tire yourself out. A stove will help you cook food quicker and more conveniently.

Fuel

Your stove won't run without fuel so be sure to check your stove's fuel levels before you leave for camping. Always have extra fuel in hand just to be sure. One thing to keep in mind is that more fuel is consumed when you're at a higher altitude or when the weather is cold.

Cooking Gear

The goal when packing for a camping trip is to pack light. All you really need is a compact pot and a cast iron skillet to start, especially if you're tight on space. But this may not be enough if you're cooking for a larger group so if space permits, add a few more pots and pans (or just bring a couple of large ones). Don't forget the smaller items that are essential in cooking – a spatula, a ladle, knives, cutting board, colander, measuring cup scissors, food containers, garbage bags and some bowls and plates to serve food in.

Cooler

A cooler has more use than keeping your drinks cold. When filled with ice, it's a great space to store food that you'll cook for your trip as well as leftovers to keep them from spoiling. It's ideal to keep most food in a sealed container so as not to attract scavengers to your campsite.

Camping Lantern

It could get really dark out in the woods and cooking can get hard. It's not ideal to rely on the campfire for light. While a flashlight will do the job, it will tie down your hands. Invest in a good quality camping lantern that will assist you in cooking, washing dishes and even provide light when you're eating.

Check all these items from your list and you'll have the 5 most essential gear for your camp kitchen!

Kitchen Remodeling – Reducing Costs

One way to reduce costs on kitchen remodeling is to make a budget and stick to it but that is not always easy. It is possible that you budgeted too low on some things or you may have seen something that you like better for your kitchen but it was over your budget. Budget and planning are the two logical ways to cut the cost of kitchen remodeling. If you are hiring a home remodeling contractor get at least two or three estimates and request that they give you a breakdown of costs so you can see how your money will be spent. Some of the products that can run the cost of the project up are countertops, flooring, and cabinets. If you are purchasing these items instead of the contractor look for the best deals, which means that you may have to go to several home improvement stores. You can also substitute lower price items to help reduce your costs but do not settle for something that you do not like or would not look right in your newly remodeled kitchen just to save money.

Determine budget

Sit down, figure out all your monthly expenses, and see how much money you have left. Figure a portion of it toward your kitchen remodeling project. You can save this much money each month for several months until you have the amount that you want to spend on your project. Once the amount is set, stick to it. Draw out what you want your kitchen to look like after the remodeling and make notes of what type of products you will need. If you would like stainless steel appliances, which are expensive, you may have to spend less on the flooring, countertops, and cabinets.

If you do not want to have a fixed budget, which makes it hard to add to if you have no extra funds to add to the budget. You should instead determine a budget range, which is many times more appropriate for a kitchen remodel. The reason this works better is that most projects are based on estimates and the actual costs can vary.

Most expensive items

The next step after figuring the budget is to determine what type of products you want to have in your finished kitchen remodeling project. The majority of the remodeling costs are usually taken up by countertops, cabinets, and flooring. Look for lower cost options that will not compromise your desired appearance of the kitchen. If you are using a home remodeling contractor, make sure that you ask what they charge for installation of these products.

Remember, draw out a plan of what you want your dream kitchen remodel to look like and figure the budget around it

How To Clean A Bathroom and Enjoy The Fruits Of Your Labor?

If you're anything like me, you probably find that, no matter how much you want it to be clean most of all, it's the bathroom you least enjoy cleaning, and the first chore you'd love to teach your kids is how to clean a bathroom. Without question, it's one of the least desirable things to do, and learning how to clean a bathroom well in the shortest time isn't one of our main goals for today, no matter how much it can benefit us down the road.

However, by taking the time needed to learn a few tricks, you really can make it easier and faster. For instance, consider how you may use a number of different cleaning agents in your bathroom, some of which you may not use elsewhere in your home. So, what if you just have a place in your bathroom to keep these products. Anything you need, whether for getting after mildew or soap scum, will be right there waiting for you.

In order to figure out how to clean a bathroom best, it may sound trivial, but it's important to plan things out. The first thing to do is start by removing all clothes and towels and things out of the way so you can pick up and get things in order. If there are throw rugs you plan to clean, get them out now too.

One of the top tips I teach when showing people how to clean a bathroom best is to get the shower area done. Chances are, it will be the hardest thing you have to clean, so knocking it off your to-do list will really help. You have the choice of either getting after it with elbow grease, or else using a spray foam cleaner that will allow you to coat the shower and tub and walk away for a bit. This can make it a bit nicer and save some energy for later.

When advising folks on how to clean a bathroom efficiently, I always prompt them to move on to the mirrors at this point. These won't be fun, but you should see a big change, and the results with give you the encouragement to move on! You should be able to actually see in the mirror now, and just nod with approval at your hard work, enjoy the fruits of your labor momentarily, and prepare to move on. From there, why not glance down and hit the faucet handles? If you want, you can use any cleaner that is suitable for use in your kitchen countertop areas. If you have shelves in the vicinity, known them out as well, since learning how to clean a bathroom properly hinges on efficiency.

If you've taken my advice on how to clean a bathroom methodically this way, you really shouldn't have much left besides the toilet. It's a good idea to swab the inside of the toilet bowl with a cleaning brush. You may want a different approach for the …
